Background

Situated in Australia’s Yarra Valley, Oakridge has been producing quality wine since 1978. Simply named from our address at Coldstream, the 864 range is a showcase of highly detailed micro-selections from the most exceptional single vineyard sites in the Yarra Valley.

Tasting Notes

Vibrant purple with a purple hue. Aromas are concentrated, bright and fresh with red currants and red berry, black cherry and cassis aromas and a hint of cool climate spice and floral. The palate is purely fruited, rich, textured and concentrated with long chains of fine velvety tannins. The fruit just flows through the wine, seamless and continuous. Generous and soft, the acidity works in harmony with the fruit. Syrah in its most purist form, all that is great about Yarra Valley and the variety.

Vineyard Notes

Oakridge Vineyard, Close Planted Block. East-facing at 120 meters above sea level. Planted at 5,200 plants per hectare in the grey alluvial loams of Coldstream using the R6VW28 clone and cropped at 5.8 t/Ha.

Winemaker's Notes

All grapes hand harvested and sorted prior to destemming directly to fermenter for whole berry fermentation. After a three day cold maceration, fermentation spontaneously commenced peaking at 30°C. The fermenter was regularly pumped over and plunged during a three week fermentation. The wine was then pressed to French oak barrels for a 14 month maturation before blending and bottling.

Vintage Notes

A cool spring wet spring followed by a long, dry autumn, with low crops and strong varietal characters. Flowering occurred in November, fruit set in late December and harvest on March 18th at 12.7° baume.
