Bright, dark purple red. Classic cabernet nose of cassis and blackberry underpinned with varietal leaf notes, earth and cigar box nuance. Unmistakable, fresh and bright. To taste, it is polished and proportioned. Even, filigreed, lacy tannin right across the palate from start to finish displaying blackcurrant, briar and tobacco leaf. The plummy richness contrasted by the raspberry like freshness. Line and length. Delicious, fragrant medium bodied and supple.
All grapes hand harvested and sorted prior to gently destemming to fermenter. After a four day cold maceration, fermentation commenced and peaked at 30°C. Pump-over were conducted twice a per day, and post ferment, the wine remained on skins for an additional 4 weeks prior to pressing. The wine then spent 15 months in French oak barrels maturing before blending and bottling.

Situated in Australia’s Yarra Valley, Oakridge has been producing quality wine since 1978. Simply named from our address at Coldstream, the 864 range is a showcase of highly detailed micro-selections from the most exceptional single vineyard sites in the Yarra Valley.
Very low crops slowly ripened in ideal conditions. Flowering occurred in November, fruit set in late January and harvest on April 8th at 13.0° baume.
Oakridge Vineyard, Winery Block. North-facing at 90 meters above sea level. Planted in the grey alluvial loams of Coldtsream in 1996 to a mixed clonal selection and cropped at 5 t/Ha.

It’s a medium-bodied Claret style with a bit of serious intent through the finish. The perfect now or later style, though arguably ‘later’ is the go. Bay leaves, mulberry, blackcurrant and milk chocolate flavours swoosh through the palate. It all comes balanced on a pinhead; fruit, oak, acid and tannin are in perfect harmony. It’s suggestive of complexity rather than aggressive about it. Tuck a few away and it won’t disappoint.
