Pale straw with green hues. White flowers, green skinned nectarine, honeydew, flecks of cordite, preserved lemon, yeast lees. Complex, changing and intriguing. The palate is so polished and long. Elegant, fine, complete, tight, mouth-watering. Integration of flavours, seamless citrus acid line to a logical conclusion of persistence and saline tang. Refreshing, precise and requiring time. Demands time in the cellar.
All grapes were hand harvested and sorted prior to whole bunch pressing directly to French oak puncheons for natural fermentation. 30% of the barrels were new. Post-fermentation, the wine was matured on its fermentation lees for 10 months in barrels followed by a further 6 months in tank prior to bottling after a single filtration.
Lusatia Park Vineyard, A Block. North facing at 215 metres above sea level. Close planted in the red volcanic soils of Woori Yallock in 1985 using the PS8 clone.
A warmer than average growing season with abundant rainfall and low crops. Flowering occurred in early November, fruit set in January and harvest on March 2nd at 12.0⁰ baume.
