Opaque purple-red with a vibrant purple hue. Leads with a dense, solid ripe black fruited nose then spicy, whole bunch notes that add cinnamon, cloves and a twiggy element. Complexity over pure fruit that changes with air. The palate has a core of ripe blackberry and poached plum fruit and chacuterie that is corralled and controlled with firm, slightly gravelly tannins. Under the black fruit there is the tell-tale curry leaf and brown spice complexity that comes from the whole bunch inclusion. A stayer, not a sprinter.
A traditional winemaking approach was used to produce this wine – whole berry fermentation in open vessels followed by a 15 month maturation in French oak puncheons.

This wine was sourced from the north-facing Oakridge vineyard sited in the grey alluvial loams of Coldstream.
A cold and windy spring resulted in poor flowering and very low crops. Ripening conditions were ideal – long and slow, resulting in wines with outstanding purity and balance.
