“A north-facing vineyard at Woori Yallock in the Upper Yarra. It comes with no shortage of flavour or drive. Lemon blossom, struck match, ginger spice and savoury, leesy notes. Feeling fuller and richer on the palate at first, it is pulled through a tight vortex by a silk-thread of acidity. Compelling and equally delicious.” – 96 points (Jane Faulkner, 2022 Halliday Wine Companion)
Pale straw with green hues. Aromatically complex with grilled citrus, white fleshed stone fruit, hints of spice, fresh picked nuts and burnt match all leaping from the glass. The palate is flavorsome and vibrant with a seamless acid line holding the wines shape and providing drive and length. White stone fruit and grapefruit citrus flavors are complimented with layers of texture from barrel fermentation and time on lees. A delicious wine from a fantastic site. - Winemakers Notes
A traditional winemaking approach was used to produce this wine – handpicking and whole bunch pressing directly to 500 litre French oak puncheons for a natural fermentation followed by 10 month maturation on lees.
This wine was sourced from the north facing Henk Vineyard, sited in the red volcanic soils of Woori Yallock.
Vintage 2019 - A warm, wet spring followed by a dry summer and autumn period has delivered good crops in near perfect harvesting conditions.
Bright, light colour, with a cashew nut aroma, attractive underlying complexities which continue through the palate. Intense and refined, precise and direct with long-lasting flavour and real finesse. A delicious wine. Pure fruit drives the wine magnificently. Great line and length. My pick of the 2019 Oakridge chardies.
