Oakridge Murramong Vineyard Arneis 2017

Arneis does a good job of complexity and drinkability in the right hands. Good onya, Dave Bicknell et al here. This wine sees a portion spend two months on skins (indeed, I copped the ferment on a previous visit), and all of it sees time in used oak. Detasil is built into this wine piece by piece. It’s a cracker, and the kind of wine I’d like kicking my night off on, particularly if I was in Continental Deli, City Wine Shop, Hey Jupiter or something similar – a joint for going easy in.
Aromatic white of pear drop and faint nuttiness in bouquet, with more pear, nougat in palate, set to juicy but with a light grip that lends added appeal. There’s freshness of fruit and a savouriness in tow, indeed, saline acidity, that faint chew to texture and general ‘nutty character’ abound. It’s layered, interesting – a trio that brings some success. Very good gear.
