Our Team

As a family-owned and operated business, Oakridge Wines revels in its team approach. From the director to the cellar door, the winemaking team to back-of-house, the kitchen to the restaurant, each person is a valued member of the Oakridge family. We also value the contribution our trade partners make to the brand, and importantly, we value our growers who work with us to produce great fruit for our wines. Above all, we know that we would not occupy this prestigious spot on the Yarra Valley map if it were not for you, our loyal customers. So, continue to join us on our journey as we bring you the very best the Valley has to offer through a dedicated and hardworking team.

DAVID BICKNELL, Chief Winemaker

With precision, innovation and decades of experience, it is David Bicknell’s innate understanding of grape and terroir that result in outstanding Oakridge wines year after year. With an approach to wine-making that incorporates everything from the soil type from which the vines are grown to the type of music that is played during vinification, David successfully amplifies site whilst seamlessly constructing the balance, elegance and freshness that define Oakridge wines.
“David Bicknell is an exceptionally gifted winemaker” – James Halliday, The Weekend Australian Magazine, January 2017

MATT STONE, Co-Executive Chef

Co-Executive Chef and author, Matt Stone, leads the Oakridge kitchen alongside Jo Barrett with their sustainable dining philosophies. His menus consist of truly modern, intelligent and innovative foods that reflect quality Victorian produce and his own “slow food” philosophies – with much of the produce showcased on the menu foraged locally or grown in the Oakridge kitchen garden. You will most likely find him at the stove, at the end of a shovel or experimenting with new ways of pickling and preserving that add intricate elements to his notable dishes.

JO BARRETT, Co-Executive Chef

Jo Barrett grew up in Melbourne and can’t remember a time when she didn’t love cooking. With a background in bread and pastry from Tivoli Road, and kitchen experience from Movida and Long Short Café, she leads the Oakridge Kitchen as Co-Executive Chef. Drawing inspiration from Australian native ingredients and the natural beauty that surrounds her at Oakridge, Jo strives to minimize waste, employing creative methods to get the most from every ingredient. Industry critics and peers have recognised Jo’s commitment with a string of hospitality awards (including 2018 ‘Women in Food Service’ Chef of the Year). In October Jo will represent Australia at the 2019 World Championship of Pastry.

TIM PERRIN, Winemaker

Entering the wine industry in 2003, Oakridge Winemaker Tim Perrin has celebrated many achievements throughout his career including nomination for Young Winemaker of the Year in 2011 and named dux of the Advanced Wine Assessment Course (AWAC) 36 in 2016. Tim’s abundant knowledge and understanding of the relationship between terroir and wine comes from experience working in many different climates including Coonawarra and California, as well as five years experience as a wine show judge. Tim’s career with Oakridge began at the harvest of the 2016 vintage.

DREW HAMILTON, Restaurant Manager

A self-described “hospo lifer”, Drew has devoted his career to making sincere connections with diners. With a CV that spans three continents and a range of diverse and impressive establishments (including iconic restaurants Loam and Igni), Drew brings a wealth of experience and talent to the award-winning culinary team at Oakridge. Together with chefs Matt Stone and Jo Barrett, Drew invites guests into the Oakridge world, underscoring the restaurant and winery’s ambition of nourishing the soil, the local community and the relationship with guests.

MATTHEW TAYLOR, Chief Executive officer

Oakridge welcomes new CEO, Matthew Taylor. Previously Executive Marketing Director at Yalumba in the Barossa, Matthew was also member of the Drinks Association Board from 2016 to 2018. With a truly global CV spanning some of the world’s most successful conglomerates, Matthew spent time at SABMiller in Central Europe and Latin America and also with Diageo in the UK.

Matthew says “I am honoured to join such a warm and talented team at Oakridge. With such superb wines created under the careful eye of chief winemaker David Bicknell; a wonderful cellar door and one of the best and most sustainable restaurants in the country thanks to chefs Matt Stone and Jo Barrett, I’m in very good company.”

An established businessman and lawyer, Oakridge Wines Director Tony D’Aloisio stepped into the corporate world as a barrister in 1973. Tony’s recent positions include Chairman of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, Managing Director and CEO of the Australian Securities Exchange (2004 to 2006) and Chief Executive of Mallesons Stephen Jaques (1992 to 2004).
