2011 Oakridge Limited Release Fume
Tasting Notes
New Release
Origin: A field blend - 67% Sauvignon from the Applejack vineyard at Gladysdale, 23% Semillon from the Oakridge vineyard at Coldstream and 10% Pinot Gris from the Hickory Downs vineyard at Diamond Creek.
Winemaking: A multi-vineyard blend based on Sauvignon but using Semillon to improve palate structure and length and Pinot Gris to improve texture and aromatics. All grapes were hand picked between between 15 -19th of March with sugars ranging from 10.0° baume with the Semillon to 12.3° baume on the gris. Grapes were passively chilled overnight before whole bunch pressing directly to old 500 litre puncheons for natural fermentation and lees ageing. Once fermentation was complete, the wines were sulphured in situ until blending in September.
Ageing: 6 months on yeats lees in French oak puncheons ranging from 4 to 6 years old. The wine was blended and bottled in September 2011.
Description: Pale straw with green hues. Complex nose of snow pea, flint, green nectarine, yeast and Chinese gooseberry. Aromatically, sauvignon dominant but has a light floral inflection of musk and jasmine. The palate is immediately soft, round and textural showing salad greens, hay and snow pea but tightens towards the finish with fine mineral acidity. Very light on its feet, polished and refreshing.
Alcohol content: 11.5%
