OAKRIDGE IN THE COMMUNITY
The Oakridge Family – A Part of the Community

Oakridge is proud to be part of the Yarra Valley Family Community. Oakridge owners’ family roots go back over 50 years in being part of and witnessing the growth of the Valley.

‘Oakridge in the Community’ is a program that will see Oakridge Wines more actively involved in supporting the community. This will be in addition to giving preference to suppliers and producers from the Valley.

REGION 13 PINOT NOIR

Oakridge friend and winemaking colleague Tom Carson’s Serrat vineyard was one of the first Black Saturday casualties in the Yarra Valley.

Within hours of the destruction, Tom was inundated with offers of support and help from within the winemaking community with John Ellis, vigneron from Bellvale in Gippsland putting forward such a generous offer that, in the end, was over and above Tom’s requirements. And so the idea of taking those surplus grapes to raise money for the local CFA was born.

After rallying our contacts, every piece of the winemaking puzzle came together with generous donations from barrel makers, label designers and producers, bottling companies and importantly, Langton’s Fine wines, to sell and distribute the finished wine. Read the full story at James Halliday’s Wine Companion.

The Region 13 Pinot Noir is now available through Langton’s website, with all proceeds assisting the Yarra Glen CFA purchase a new tanker. Region 13 honors the tireless work, dedication and bravery of the CFA.

Oakridge Sponsors the Heat Program (Hospitality Employment and Training)

The HEAT (Hospitality Employment And Training) program, developed by the St Kilda Youth Services Learning Centre in South Melbourne, provides oppourtunities to less fortunate Melbourne youths and provides them with the knowledge, skills and qualifications to improve not only their own lives but those around them. The program operates as a learning centre and provides students with the oppourtunity to gain qualifications within the hospitality industry.

Oakridge welcomed a group of 13 students from the HEAT program for lunch on July 29. The students were treated to tour of the winery, followed by a two course meal and wine tasting. The students brought with them their current edition of the cook book produced by members of the HEAT program, The way forward is good food. Also worthy of a mention is our very own Cellardoor team member Stephen Powell, who has been recognised for help with recipe development and proofreading of the cook book.

'this book is a testament to the program's success. It also highlights the positive momentum that the HEAT program continues to generate as it grows and supports more and more young people in their hospitality training'.  Emma Crichton, SKYS CEO. The HEAT cook book is now available for purchase in the Oakridge Cellardoor.

We are excited to be a part of this outstanding initiative and look forward to the support we will provide in the near future!
